Rosemount at a Glance

Mission & Vision

Mission

Rosemount Center’s mission is to prepare children and families for their future by providing comprehensive early childhood education and family support programs in a bilingual multicultural setting.

Vision

Children and families ready for the world.

History

Founded by the House of Mercy, the oldest existing charity of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. House of Mercy has been serving women and children in need since the mid-1880s. Its program was converted to early childhood development and daycare in 1972 by creating a separate 501(c)(3) – Rosemount Center.

Building

Housed in the House of Mercy’s facility – built in 1911 and modernized in 2005 at a cost of $6.3 million. House of Mercy provides use of its building and grounds for a $1/year and helps pay a portion of the building maintenance costs as part of its lease agreement with Rosemount.

Funding

An independent community-based organization, relying on federal grants, local government subsidies and grants, private foundations and individuals to support a $5 million annual budget.

Who Do We Serve?

Offers dual language (English/Spanish) services for 240 infants, toddlers and preschool age children in home-based and center-based programs. Provides much valued socio-economic diversity through the Early Head Start and Head Start Program, along with tuition paying parents, District of Columbia government subsidized (Office of the State Superintendent of Education – OSSE) families, and an OSSE Pre-K grant.
